We walk the talk
Since 2004, FUN 92.7 has provided free tower space and pays the utility costs for the NOAA weather radio transmitter operations in Marshall County.

Our new 499-foot tower at Grassy provides North Alabama with alert information 24 hours a day.  FUN 92.7 does not receive any outside funding for this service.  It's what good local radio is all about.  Tell your friends about us.  Ask businesses to switch their fm dial to 92.7.  And the world will be a little more fun, and a lot safer.  Thanks.

Goodbye, Boaz
About 260 Hurricane Gustav evacuees said goodbye to Boaz early Friday morning as they boarded six charter buses to make the long trip home to Louisiana.

The Boaz campus of Snead will officially reopen to students on Saturday, September 6, and classes and activities will resume as normal on Monday, September 8.  However, the gym and the Student Union Building will remain closed until the clean-up process is complete.  The Snead State cafeteria will be open on Sunday to serve its regular customers.

Northeast Alabama Community College also said goodbye to their evacuees this morning as well.

The shelter sites received word Thursday evening via a conference call that the "all clear" had been given for the evacuees to return to Louisiana.

Black Lab Mix dog and puppies available for adoption
A female black lab mix dog and five puppies are available for immediate adoption from a FUN listener who is fostering the abandoned pets.  The mother dog is approximately two years old and the puppies are nine weeks old, born on July 5.  There are four female puppies and one male.  For information, call FUN 92.7 at 256-586-9300.  The foster home is in the east Marshall County area.

Automated calls to area residents are scams;
not from local bank
The Northeast office of the Better Business Bureau received information on a scam targeting residents in the Albertville area.  An automated calls tells the resident that their account at a local bank has been closed and in order to re-activate, they need to dial a phone number that is provided.  When the number is dialed, further questions are asked.  The BBB warns that banks do not contact their customers this way and they already have the information they need.  If you are concerned, call the bank yourself and not the phone number provided.  According to the BBB, this is very likely an attempt to steal your identification, and you are warned to guard your personal information.

FUN 92.7 is collecting old cell phones to be refurbished for  911 emergency calls
Drop off any unneeded cell phone at funradio's office in Arab and we'll donate it to the nationwide non-profit organization "Secure the Call Foundation".  The foundation takes phones, inspects them, cleans them, charges their batteries, and then reprograms them to be used as free 911 emergency phones.  Any phone that can be turned on can access 911 services even without a carrier service plan.  The phones are then distributed to domestic violence shelters, senior centers, neighborhood watch groups, school crossing guards and other agencies with an immediate need for 911 access.

FUN 92.7 is located on U.S. Highway 231 in Arab, behind the Taco Bell, next to Pizza Hut.
